How To Make A Vision Board

What Is A Vision Board?

A vision board is a collage of your ideas, hopes, dreams and aspirations. It can help you express an emotion or feeling that you wish to attain. It can also give you a clear visual picture of what you wish to create or achieve over a set time period.

“A collage of pictures, text and other items that represent and affirm one’s dreams and ambitions, created to help visualise and focus on one or more specific aspirations;”

The Dictionary

You can make a vision board each year or when you have achieved the outcomes that you set. Or if you decide on a better one along the way. It is an ever-changing and evolving project that is just for you. It can also be a joint or family project too.

How Does A Vision Board Work?

Vision boards work on the principle of the law of attraction. When you actively chose to focus on what you want for your life and how you want to feel. You can use this to start putting things into practice to create this change.

This will be different for everyone as you will all have different things that make you happy. Different goals which you wish to achieve in your career, free time, health, wellness, love and family life.

However, no matter what age or stage you are at in life you can construct a vision board. You can create a life that you want to live and achieve the goals that you set yourself.

Beginning the process of creating your vision board is the key to achieving what you want to focus on.

Many famous celebrities and other high powered individuals use this as a tool to help them remain focused on what is important to them.

Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, Beyonce, Katy Perry and Steve Harvey are a few people who use vision boards amongst others to achieve their goals. Blogger Mrs Hinch posted one on her Instagram stories recently about things her family wish to do in the future.

One of my favourite bible verses says

“write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay”.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 NIV &

What Should You Do Before You Create Your Vision Board?

Jotting down all of your goals will also help you to focus on what you want to achieve. You can never have too many goals. Success is not a straight line and you will have some failures but these can be learnt from and this will help you to achieve many other things.

There is a power in creating your vision board. Your dreams should be bigger than any of your fear for God fulfils these promises.

Having a visual reminder is a great motivator for any goal you have. From weight loss to becoming debt-free, finding the job of your dreams or the perfect life that you wish to live.

As you achieve certain goals on your board they can be replaced by different ideas, targets or emotional feelings. It is ever-evolving and improving and that is the pure beauty of it.

It allows you to concentrate on the positives and find joy and gratitude. Rather than fixating on negative emotions which are counterproductive.

“The belief that positive thoughts are magnets for positive life experiences and negative thoughts (i.e. the very cynical definition previously provided for this term) are magnets for negative life experiences.”

The Urban Dictionary

What Should Be On Your Vision Board?

Well that is simple, whatever you want! Once you have decided on the important things listed below and wrote down your ideas you will have a better insight of what you wish to display on your board.

  • What are your values?
  • Your dream job or career path?
  • How much would you earn?
  • What do you want your family life look like?
  • What do you want from your love life/ quality time?
  • How will your health and wellness look overall?
  • How do you want to spend your free time?
  • What do you wish to learn or develop?
  • Where do you want to live or travel to?
  • What is most important to you?
  • How do you want to feel?
  • What you want to leave as a legacy

You need to think about all these key areas of how you would like your life to be. Rather than what it currently is? You have the ability to change things if you are willing to do some things differently. You have the ability to feel differently too.

Everything is in the power of your mindset and having a strong belief.

I was also able to create the same board on my phone and my computer so it is always with me. See my vision board below. This board is a joint board that my husband and I constructed together.

Where Should You Place Your Vision Board?

No one can see your imagination as God gave it to you and you alone. It should be shared wisely as the wrong people can crush your dreams whereas others can build them up.

Everything begins with an idea!

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1 NLT

Place your vision board in a special place, somewhere you will see it every day. Put it on your phone, tablet, computer or wall.

Mine sits on my bedroom wall above my computer. I see it every morning when I wake up. As I am writing this post today it is a visual reminder and motivation for me to keep going. And I look at it every night before I go to sleep and pray on everything listed as well other things.

I pray over the items and words or feeling listed on my vision board and the goals I want to achieve and you can do the same thing too if you want. If not it will still motivate and focus you on what is important going forward.

In times like these, you can take positive action and reach for what you want for yourself and your family. How do you want to live, where do you want to live and what environment do you want to live in.

You can then set about achieving this through your board. See some of my dreams listed in the following post.

Its a really fun process whether you are creative or not, you can still produce a vision board. Be it simple and minimalist or jam-packed and messy. It is your choice so long as it holds your goals and your focus.

What You Will Gain From Your Completed Board?

Your vision board allows you to gain some clarity over what your future goals will be. You can start to put targets in place to achieve your goals and then set new targets thereafter.

As you reach these markers you will see that you are able to achieve what you have set out this will give you a sense of confidence, belief and achievement when you attain them.

You can put off things that you dream of through fear and negativity. It is all in what you choose to believe and who you place your trust in.

By breaking down our ideas into manageable goals you can reach your dreams. You have to push yourself to stretch so add in things that seem impossible, so that you know that things are possible if you have faith, belief and trust.

“Just like the law of gravity, the law of attraction never slips up. You don’t see pigs flying because the law of gravity made a mistake and forgot to apply gravity to pigs that day. Likewise, there are no exclusions to the law of attraction. If something came to you, you drew it, with prolonged thought. The law of attraction is precise”

“You create your own universe as you go along”.

Winston Churchill (1847 – 1965)

Now go get busy and enjoy imagining what your life could look like if you place no limits on yourself. Find joy in your journey. Live a life on purpose with a purpose.

This is the first year that I’ve made a vision board and I love it. It’s such a powerful reminder of your goals, dreams and priorities. I created mine on the computer as my screensaver so that every time I turned on my computer it was the first thing I saw. The Habukkuk 2:2-3 verse was an AHA moment for me. I had never thought of that verse in that way before. Love it! Thanks for sharing this post! 🙂

Jelane thank you so much for your comments and I am so pleased that you have made a vision board. It is great fun as well as being a great exercise in goal setting. Habakkuk 2:2 has to be one of my favouirte verses. I am so pleased that you found a new meaning to this verse. Let me know when you reach some of your goals that you have set out on your board. I already have two down so it is giving me great motivation to keep going.
